Geological services, remediation, remediation services, remediation methods, soil cleaning, environmental services

Geological services (remediation) represent historically, and based on the financial volume of the several hundreds of successfully completed projects, the most important area in the business of ATE CR, a.s.

geological services, remediation During 15 years of its existence the company has become one of the national leaders in this sector, especially in the area of the restoration of old environmental burdens settled by the state budget - the Czech National Property Fund, later the Czech Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of the Environment, or funded privately. This mostly includes the remediation of rock environments - soils and groundwater, especially contaminated by oil products and their derivatives, chlorinated solvents, heavy metals, etc.

We use a variety of methods. Most of our methods have been taken over from our French founder, and subsequently innovated and modified on the basis of our own experience. We specialize in the remediation services for Czech private customers controlled by French capital. This is where we have been very successful. Thanks to our professional background and our language skills, we are capable of meeting even the most demanding requirements of our customers.

geological services, remediation We create the applied technologies for individual remediation work according to the specific location and the type of contamination. Jobs are usually completed as “turnkey” projects, i.e. including the initial exploration, processing of a remediation project, technology installation, and the remediation work, including negotiations with the competent state authorities. We also guarantee professional geological supervision throughout the job processing stage.

We have the necessary professional permissions, licenses and certificates for individual technologies that are necessary for the proper execution of the services offered. Thanks to timely and professional remediation, we help our clients save significant financial resources, while reducing the environmental burden, especially as regards the quality of groundwater.

REMEDIATION METHODS AND PROCEDURES

“Ex situ” methods

  • Soil excavation
  • Depending on the degree of contamination
  • Decontamination or disposal at a controlled dumping site
  • Decontamination technology:
    • Land farming
    • Biodegradation using special bacterial or fungal cultures

“In situ” methods

  • Conventional or pulsed remediation pumping
  • Vacuum pumping
  • Venting
  • Bioventing
  • Air sparging
  • Combined methods

AIR SPARGING, groundwater cleaning, remediation

Decontamination of volatile substances using blown air. Air is pressed into a collector down to the impermeable bed where fine bubble dispersion is created, capturing the contaminants and bringing them to a collecting evaporation system. Volatile substances are removed using the venting system.

AIR SPARGING, groundwater cleaning, remediation

Advantages:

  • Cost effective
  • Pumping without a need to close the remediated structure down
  • The blown air creates favourable conditions for the biodegradation of less volatile pollutants

Disadvantages:

  • The use depends on the properties of the remediated environment, such as permeability

EXCAVATION, soil remediation, remediation services

Fastest remediation method. Soil is excavated and removed to a decontamination area, depending on the intensity of decontamination.

Excavation - course of remediation

Contaminated soil -> Excavation -> Transport -> Decontamination area
-> Biodegradation.

Advantages:

  • Speed

Disadvantages:

  • High cost of excavation, transport and cleaning per cubic metre of soil

VACUUM PUMPING, remediation, remediation services

Decontamination of soil, soil gas and groundwater

Decontamination of groundwater, soil gas and soil from petroleum hydrocarbons. The oil product phase is removed from the water table and zone of water table fluctuation and capillary fringe using vacuum pumping. The pumped groundwater and soil gas are cleaned separately on the surface.

VACUUM PUMPING, remediation, remediation services

Advantages:

  • High efficiency of the decontamination of groundwater, soil and soil gas
  • Purification of small groundwater volumes
  • The level of underground water does not decrease; suitable for the remediation in areas near watercourses
  • Low-diameter boreholes are sufficient

Disadvantages:

  • Less effective in highly permeable environments
  • Extensive contamination requires the use of high-performance facilities
  • Supply of atmospheric air reduces the remediation effectiveness

BIOVENTING, unsaturated zone cleaning, remediation

Decontamination of soil contaminated by volatile oil products. Air is supplied into an unsaturated zone, which oxidizes the environment and creates conditions for successful biodegradation. Alternatively, it is possible to inject special bacterial cultures.

BIOVENTING, unsaturated zone cleaning, remediation

Advantages:

  • cost effective
  • remediation is carried out while the structure concerned is in operation
  • easy installation

Disadvantages:

  • dependence on the environment properties

BIODEGRADATION, decontamination of excavated soil, remediation

Decontamination of soil from organic substances within a special area, so-called bioremediation or organic decontamination. Decontamination may also have the form of landforming, i.e. the use of indigenous bacterial cultures in soil and optimization of conditions for their activity, or using special bacterial strains, i.e. using added special bacterial strains complementing the original soil microflora.

BIODEGRADATION, decontamination of excavated soil, remediation

VENTING, soil decontamination, geological services, remediation

Decontamination of soils from volatile oil products. Volatile substances are brought to the surface by air, and filtered through an activated carbon layer.

VENTING, soil decontamination, geological services, remediation

Advantages:

  • Easy installation
  • Remediation without a need to close the remediated structure down
  • After the completion of the remediation, the system is retained for monitoring
  • The technology creates favourable conditions for biodegradation

Disadvantages:

  • Impossibility of remediating less volatile substances
  • Dependence on the environment properties (e.g. permeability)
  • Remediation of soils only
